The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson for Western Region, Hon. Eng. Jonard Asiimwe Akiiki, has today fulfilled his pledge to the Hoima Media SACCO with a generous donation of UGX 15 million, completing his earlier commitment of UGX 30 million made earlier this year.
The contribution was officially received by the SACCO’s Vice Chairperson, Mr. Fred Byenkya, who commended Eng. Asiimwe for being a dependable and visionary leader who supports initiatives aimed at empowering the media fraternity in Bunyoro.
While speaking to Jonard Post, the SACCO Chairperson, Mr. Nkalu Christopher, popularly known as Chris Da Great, expressed profound gratitude to Eng. Asiimwe, describing him as “a true friend and supporter of journalists.”
“As Hoima Media SACCO, we appreciate Eng. Jonard for standing with us. His continued support demonstrates his belief in the power of the media to drive development and unity,” Nkalu said.
Nkalu further revealed that the Hoima Media SACCO currently boasts over 200 registered members from across the Bunyoro sub-region. He appealed to Eng. Asiimwe to remind H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of his earlier UGX 100 million pledge to journalists’ SACCOs in the region.
Earlier in the day, Eng. Jonard Asiimwe held a Regional Media Briefing at his home in Hoima City, where he emphasized the critical role of journalists in promoting truth and responsible reporting amidst rising political propaganda.
He cited instances of misinformation being spread by some politicians who claim that if elected, they would allocate 25% of oil revenue to Bunyoro, whereas, in reality, the country’s framework provides for 12.5% shared nationally.
“It is the journalists’ duty to give people accurate information and help them understand the facts, not propaganda,” Eng. Asiimwe stated.
He reaffirmed his commitment to continuing collaboration with the media fraternity, noting that an informed public is essential for national progress.
“I will keep supporting and working closely with the media. A strong media means a well-informed society,” he concluded.
